The purpose of this project is to create a digital publishing system for an article that is specifically designed for the user interaction on an iPad. The article is about the Large Hadron Collider that has been a 30 year project at C.E.R.N. in Geneva, Switzerland. This is a particle accelerator with the goal of finding and gaining knowledge on the Higgs boson particle.
Since the article is discussing bringing people together, it is necessary to try and bring people to full comprehend this topic. An aspect that that keeps people from understanding the need for funding on this project is just a lack of knowledge about the benefits that the LHC can have on the rest of humanity.
Knowing this, I kept the interactions within the learning system very simple and direct. By considering the variety of people coming to this site, this will encourage everyone to explore the site in it’s entirety. Viewers can research terms that are found in the article that that do not understand, as well as easily view other articles that they might find interesting or even just some important tweets.
A lot of people solely want to get a quick overview or visual of topics when they do not have awareness of them, so I also created an interactive visual diagram for the LHC module. The viewer can zoom in and out of particular sections that are confusing to them, where they get an in-depth description of the section and a more detailed visual. The advocate can use this diagram as well because the collision detection stations are not that well known, so they can delve into this aspect of the module more thoroughly.
Overall, this project is a success because of the wide range of viewers that want to interact with this. Not only do people want to visit this site for the first time for an understanding, but they have a reason to revisit whenever they want to easily look for updates.
